On Tupac's 55th Birthday, A Rare Story Reveals The Love His Family Still Carries

Today, fans around the world are celebrating what would have been the 55th birthday of legendary rapper, actor and activist Tupac Shakur.

While millions remember the music, filmmaker RJ Bond recently shared a personal reflection about Tupac's birthday celebrations and his experiences with the rapper's family.

Bond recalled that after receiving recognition for his documentary work, Tupac's estate granted him access to film on property associated with the late rapper in Georgia. "The estate allowed us to film on property," Bond remembered. "They had his birthday celebration there and all that. The rest of them came to our screening, the red-carpet screening for the movie (Assassination). And that was a great cosign, I think. His aunt was there, and they had such an amazing, enduring relationship" he said.

According to Bond, the support from Tupac's relatives left a lasting impression on him. Reflecting on the experience, Bond noted the close bond between Tupac's family and those dedicated to preserving his story.

"Frank [Alexander, Tupac's bodyguard] and the family stayed close. Frank and mom [Afeni] got along fantastic," Bond recalled. "This rich legacy that Frank left behind [for me]."

As fans revisit Tupac's music and message today, stories like Bond's serve as a reminder that beyond the headlines and hit records was a legacy that continues to inspire.
