Today, family, friends, teammates, and supporters gathered in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to celebrate the life of 18-year-old Nolan Xavier Wells, whose death has captured national attention and left a community searching for answers.

The funeral, officiated by Reverend Al Sharpton, was filled with powerful tributes honoring the young football player, son, and friend remembered for his infectious smile, compassion, and bright future. Instead of focusing solely on grief, Nolan's family asked those in attendance to celebrate the life he lived, saying he wouldn't have wanted everyone sitting around crying.
Nolan disappeared during a Fourth of July boating trip to Horn Island before his body was discovered two days later. While authorities have said there is currently no evidence of foul play, many questions remain unanswered. The official cause of death is still pending, and the Wells family has launched its own independent investigation with the help of civil rights attorney Ben Crump.
Support for the family has poured in from across the country. Tyler Perry covered the funeral expenses, Colin Kaepernick funded an independent autopsy, and leaders including Reverend Sharpton have called for a full, transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Nolan's death.
As Nolan Wells was laid to rest today, his family made one message clear: while they honor his memory, their search for the truth is far from over. They say they remain committed to getting the answers they believe Nolan—and every grieving family—deserves.
